On the Radar

People moves and events worth knowing about — a short list, not a long read.

People

  1. In memory of Tim Wedlock

Tim Wedlock spent 39 years at AEI Insurance Broking Group, marking that anniversary the week before he tragically passed away on 1 August, one of several pedestrians struck by a car that Nashville police allege ran a red light. He served as President of the National Insurance Brokers Association and sat on its board for 14 years, but the tributes since have circled back to something simpler than any of that: how much of his time he gave away for free, to junior brokers, to NIBA committees, to the 200-plus games he played for Gordon Rugby Club. AEI chief executive Noel Kelly called him a mentor and a cornerstone of the business, and said, simply, we have lost a mate. Thirty-nine years in one place, and he never stopped sharing his time and wisdom with anyone and everyone. That's not a small thing to leave behind.

  2. Timothy Powell → Relm Insurance, APAC Chief

Appointed head of Asia-Pacific and global head of underwriting performance at emerging-industry specialist Relm Insurance, based in Sydney.

  3. Ben Savill → Swiss Re, CEO Australia & New Zealand

Appointed CEO of Swiss Re's Australia and New Zealand business, effective 1 October, succeeding Trent Thomson, who moves to Global Head of Specialty Reinsurance in London. Savill joins from Guy Carpenter, where he was Pacific CEO, and brings almost three decades of underwriting experience across Amlin, Fidelis, and Convex.

  4. Tim Mathieson → Steps Down as Steadfast's CEO, Australasia Broking

Steps down after 11 years with Steadfast Group, effective 31 July, to pursue a new opportunity.

  5. Dale Smith → Returns as CEO of Javln

Javln's founder returns to the CEO role as David Leach steps down.

  6. Aon Australia Overhauls Its Executive Leadership Team

Four moves at once: Helen Lockwood becomes Australian COO from January, stepping up from heading affinity and small business, reporting to CEO Kevan Johnston and Asia-Pacific COO Ben Jones. Ben Rolfe expands his remit to head of commercial risk for Australia and chief broking officer for Pacific, effective this month. Mary-Catherine Hamill joins the Australian executive leadership team while continuing as head of construction, with an expanded remit. And Housing Industry Association Insurance Services, led by Anita Wilson, moves into one connected leadership structure for construction.
